DECEMBER MEETING – LASAGNE, POTLUCK, AUCTION

Come celebrate the holidays at the club’s December General Meeting. The club will be supplying lasagne and garlic bread. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to share (salad, side or dessert). We will be holding our 4th Annual Gary L Acquistapace Memorial Donation Fundraising Auction. Get your donations in to Don P at cupertinocoins@yahoo.com by December 1. That is the drop-dead date. Nothing will be accepted beyond that date. The meeting will begin at 7:00 pm. Arrive at least 15 minutes early to review the lot if you haven’t checked it out online, first. Check your Coin Press Newsletter for the URL of the photos of the items submitted so far. Bring a dish, bring a friend, bring holiday cheer, bring your wallet. HAPPY HOLIDAYS! We look forward to seeing you at the December 11 meeting, remember, 7:00, not 7:30.

NCNA Numismatic Educational Forum

Five Cupertino Coin Club Board Members (Suzy T, Cam S, Emile M, Don P, and Dan S) made the 75-mile trek up to Vallejo, CA for a full day of numismatic education at the Northern California Numismatic Association’s Numismatic Educational Forum on Saturday, November 15, 2025. This year’s theme was ‘Women Enthusiasts for Numismatics’. Lisa Dare from Calgary Numismatic Society in Calgary, Alberta, Canada presented the light-hearted, “Living with a Numismatist.” Charmy Harker, the Penny Lady, from Irvine, California, presented on “Quality Cents”, some things to look for in one-cent coins and how selling one cent (worth $35,000) allowed her to purchase a car when she needed one. Mary N Lannin from the American Numismatic Society in New York, New York, presented on “Women and Water: Admirals, Pirates, and Spies,” when historical records of women were not often well kept, yet there have been notable women on coinage throughout history. Last, but certainly not least, was Christian Strayhorn from the American Numismatic Association in Colorado Springs, Colorado who did an amazing presentation on the revamping of the ANA’s Numismatic education program through the “ANA’s Educational Rejuvenation: eLearning,” sweeping changes since 2023. This photo of us includes the ANA’s Education Director, Christian Strayhorn in the back and the ANA’s Executive Director, Kim Kiick, on the right. Other CCC members in attendance at the Forum but not photographed were Don H and David G.

Cupertino Coin Club Treasurer, Emile M, was awarded the American Numismatic Association’s Presidential Award from Thomas Uram, 63rd President of the ANA. The award was presented by ANA Executive Director, Kim Kiick. Congratulations, Emile!

We had a wonderful day!

COIN COLLECTING AT SCOUT-O-RAMA

Wow! What a day! 😃 Our first Scout-o-Rama. We had Lots of interest at our booth for information about coin collecting. Lots of families came by to learn about the hobby.
We showed them about counterfeit coin detection, old stock certificates for their artistic beauty, storeage methods by giving away folders, cards, tubes, and air tights. We gave away ANA pencils, foreign coins & wooden nickels, $20 note posters, and booklets on getting started in coin collecting. We had coin coloring pages and crayons, Numismatic word search puzzles, Anatomy of a Coin diagrams, ANA Coins for A’s program flyers, Design Your Own Commemorative coin pages, and flyers about our October Coin Collecting Merit Badge Workshop. We showed kids what a Red Book is for and how to use it, and the variety of coin magazines available. We invited all who stopped by to attend our club meeting this coming Friday. We hope to see many new faces. 🙂
Our booth was awarded two ribbons. The red one for participation in the event & the yellow one for Honorable Mention! 🏅
Thank you club volunteers, Don P, Art B, Kevin A, Ivan L, Gran G, Suzy T & Emile M. We couldn’t have done it without you! 🙏

JOE M MEMORIAL SERVICE – May 1, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joe M, a cherished member of Cupertino Coin Club since January 2011 and dedicated Board Director. Joe passed away on Easter Sunday, May 20, 2025. Joe was an active participant of the Club, always bringing kindness and generosity to our monthly meetings and events such as the annual banquet.

A devoted parishioner of St Joseph of Cupertino Church, Joe served as the Club’s liaison between the Club and the Church. In November 2021, Joe shared his numismatic expertise with us as a guest speaker, presenting on the topic of Irradiated Dimes.

Joe’s wife, Rita, who is also a long-time member of Cupertino Coin Club, warmly invites Club members to attend Joe’s memorial service on Thursday, May 1, at St Joseph of Cupertino Church, located at 10110 N De Anza Blvd, Cupertino, CA. Viewing will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by mass at 11:30 a.m., and his internment will take place at 1:00 p.m. We hope many of you can join us to say goodbye to Joe, honor his memory, and celebrate his life.

MAY MEETING CHANGE – Note: Date Change

The May meeting will be the THIRD Friday of May, May 16th, beginning at 7:30 PM. Kevin A will be our guest speaker, talking about Gold Issues and Patterns. We look forward to seeing you then!
